Product Description

This slim, stylish device is with you all the time. During the day, it tracks steps, distance, and calories burned. At night, it tracks your sleep quality and wakes you silently in the morning. Just check out the lights to see how you stack up against your personal goal. It's the motivation you need to get out and be more active.Set a goal and go, Flex allows you to set a goal and uses LED lights to show how you're stacking up. Each light represents 20% of your goal. You choose which one, steps, calories, or distance. It lights up like a scoreboard, challenging you to be more active day after day. Flex Tracks:*Steps taken*Distance travelled*Calories burned*Active minutes*Hours slept*Quality of sleepPowered by Fitbit's leading-edge accelerometer, Flex bases calculations like calories burned on your personal profile reflecting your stats, not any average Joes.Flex never sleeps, even when you do. Continue to wear it all night and it'll measure your sleep quality. Your dashboard will reveal how long you slept and the number of times you woke up to help you learn how to sleep more soundly. Flex also has a silent wake alarm that gently vibrates to wake you at your desired time, without disturbing your partner.Flex automatically syncs your data to PCs, Macs, iPhone 4S & 5, iPad 3, Retina & mini, iPod touch, and to select Android phones without plugging in or pushing buttons. This gives you real-time access to your stats on the Fitbit dashboard throughout the day. Also with select NFC-enabled Android devices, you can tap your device to launch your Fitbit stats. It's like magic.

5Fitbit RULES!
By LuluBelle
It is hard to explain my delight with FITBIT without relating a few personal details. If you don't care for details, at the bottom, I will provide PROS and CONS.
Last year, I had a rough bout with chronic health problems and had to take oral corticosteroids for extended periods. Because I was unable to exercise as regularly as before, coupled with the steroids, like most people, I gained weight. It was a shock to find out the added poundage didn't just "fall off" when the steroids were withdrawn. Despite the fact that eventually, I was going to the gym regularly again, I wasn't seeing the results I wanted. I found the whole experience frustrating and defeating.
Because we saw FITBIT featured on a Christmas gift list on a morning TV show, I told my husband about it. Thankfully, I received a FITBIT Flex for Christmas. I must say it is one of the most useful gifts I have ever received! Although I experienced a few "hiccups" and a slight learning curve, the FITBIT has become my best friend for weight loss and fitness improvement. Because I wanted to lose maybe 18 lbs at most, losing 11 lbs since Dec 29 is AMAZING! I would, (and have) recommended FITBIT, because people keep asking if I am doing 'something different.' The weight loss on my small frame is easy to see, of course, but I think figuring out the key to one's weight shows in my attitude, more than anything else. I feel as if I have found something to share with anyone who is willing to listen. Frankly, I have to stop myself from sharing this secret with the girls at the gym who have been working out regularly for years and haven't seen the progress I know they desire. So instead of telling them, I am going to tell YOU!
As mentioned above, as with any device, it might take you a few days to become aware of all of the "bells and whistles" with FITBIT, but it is worth every minute! I say if this "old girl" can figure it out, you can too! Simply stated: Tracking my activity level each day, allows me to know how many calories I should consume to meet my goals. The device is not difficult to master, and the website offers help if one needs it. I recommend downloading the manual for FITBIT in case you have more questions.
It has been very interesting to know exactly how much or little sleep I have been getting, and to make small changes in my habits. Seeing a report every day telling me how many times I awaken during the night was a shock at first. I now know I must get to bed earlier! Now I know why on certain days I wake up completely unrefreshed.
I have found it very useful, and for me, essential to link my FITBIT with Sparkpeople. In case you are not familiar with it, Sparkpeople is a free website started by a great guy who invested an enormous amount of money so he could help people become more fit. (Even if you don't purchase a FITBIT, it is worth your time to check out Sparkpeople.) I was familiar with that website, and had used it in the past to lose a little weight. But I never knew exactly how much activity I was getting, so my estimations were incorrect! Thank heaven for FITBIT!
The pairing of FITBIT and Sparkpeople has been, without a doubt, the best tweak I have ever discovered for this nearly 60 year-old body! Although you can track your caloric intake on FITBIT, I think it is easier, at least for me, on Sparkpeople. But since the two link together, what could be better? FITBIT gives me a great deal of information, and Sparkpeople provides other information and other support.
So here is my easy method for (almost) easy weight loss--just in case there is someone out there willing to hear me out. Virtually every morning I go to the gym to get a little exercise. Afterwards, I log into FITBIT and see how many calories I have burned, and coupled with the goals I had already set up, the interface on the website (or on your smartphone) tells just how many calories I should consume for that day. As the day progresses, I enter my calories, and stay within target. I LOVE checking in during the day so I know EXACTLY what I should eat and how much activity I should get to lose weight and stay healthy. Some days I get more activity, and therefore I can and do eat a little more. On days where I am planning to eat out or like Super Bowl Sunday, eat more than usual, what a delight it is to know I can tailor my eating to activity level, and STILL LOSE WEIGHT. Because you can see the intensity of your activities, you can't lie to yourself anymore. I used to think I was "really burning up the fat" when I was walking. Now I can see on the daily activity report just how intense my activities are. Knowledge truly is power!
Because you set up your goals, such as the number of steps you want to take each day, when you reach them, FITBIT will lightly buzz your wrist when you reach them. To check your progress throughout the day, you tap the device so you can easily tell what percentage of your goal you have reached. You can also set up a silent alarm to wake you in the morning, and you will get another little buzz on your wrist. I will say, if you are a heavy sleeper, however, I wouldn't count on this alarm only. I have slept through it a couple of times, but on most days "little jolt" does wake me up.
It is hard to express how grateful I am for finding FITBIT. I think it provides the confidence to take charge of my weight and health. I have been a regular at my local rec center for years, but was frustrated that I was having difficulty losing the 18 pounds I had gained from taking oral steroids for 6 months straight, and then periodically throughout last year. Now, I know that I am in complete control and that makes me SMILE!
Many of my friends at the gym have purchased the FITBIT FORCE and rave about it too, but I bought the less-expensive Flex because I wanted to test out the more frugal version first. I am completely satisfied the Flex offers just what I was looking for. I don't think this device is for everyone, though, because I think some people want to lose weight without doing anything different and some just want a "magic pill." I know. I get that. I have been there! But the truth is, FITBIT will help you, but you still have to move, get enough sleep and eat right! But how GREAT it is to do those things AND have enough information to make wise choices and then see results! Almost every day someone says I don't "look my age." Being fit makes all the difference in the world.
I wish everyone success! Thank you for reading my review.

PROS: Easy to activate and learn how to use
Easy to personalize for your goals
Easy to set up alarms
Tracks activity, and sleep. Encourages you to drink enough liquid, and tells you how "vigorous" your activities are
Provides reports on activity, sleep, weight, caloric intake, etc.
Buzzes you when you have reached your activity goal for the day
Nice graphics on the interface to provide positive feedback
Easy to charge
Customer service is adequate and they seem willing to help if you have a problem, either by email or obtaining info on their website
Website offers "community" support, although I have never logged in for that
CONS:
Although the device is waterproof, and you can wear it while showing, etc., the band can become a little moist and get a little "smelly." I find it is better to remove the device to keep it dry while showing.
You get two different size bands, one small and one large. But what are you to do with the other band that doesn't fit your wrist?
Charging the device takes several hours. I wish it were faster, as I want ALL my activities included for every day. The charge does last for several days, but if you sync your device frequently, that will deplete the charge more rapidly. I have learned to sync my device one night while I sleep.
The band is a tad difficult for me to put on, as you must press HARD on the little things that insert in the band. I have arthritic fingers, and it took a few tries to get the hang of putting the band on.
The caloric count of certain items isn't the same as other sources. Of course, this isn't unique to FITBIT! As I said above, I link my device to Sparkpeople and enter my food there.
If you cook, I think it is time-consuming to enter all the ingredients and divide up the servings on FITBIT. Frankly, I prefer Sparkpeople for recipes for that very reason. I don't just eat processed foods, or ones every one else eats...I want to create recipes, so Sparkpeople is easier for that, but since they can be synced together, it is no problem.
Figuring out a couple of the features takes a little bit of time, but it isn't difficult. I wouldn't expect on DAY ONE, anyone would master everything FITBIT has to offer.
The price isn't outrageous, but it isn't cheap, either.
FITBIT isn't a "magic pill" for instant weight loss. It is a tool that provides information. To me, this is the intelligent way to lose weight and get more fit.

SIDEBAR: The first FITBIT FLEX we purchased, was defective and would not hold its charge. We contacted customer service and they offered several options. We returned it to the Sam's Club where we purchased it, but unfortunately every Sam's and Walmart within 100 miles had sold out of FITBIT. It took several days before we were able to get another one. Since that time, we have purchased 2 more devices and have recommended them to anyone and everyone.

5Terrific!
By b huiting
I wondered why I was always tired when I woke up. With fitbit I can see how often I woke up during the night so I know why I don't feel rested. I was in bed for 8 hours but only getting 6 hours sleep. Fitbit is helping me keep moving at night so I can keep my weight under control. I love it!
